Planned power interruptions - Essential work on the University's electrical infrastructure

(9 March 2018)

The Estates and Buildings department is carrying out a programme of work on the University’s high and low voltage electrical infrastructure which involves planned power interruptions to a number of buildings. Essential work will be carried out on Saturday, 17 March which will interrupt the power supply to the Arthur Holmes Building and Calman Learning Centre for approximately 8 hours. If you require any further information please contact in the Estates and Buildings Department.

The University’s electrical infrastructure is an essential service which supports building operations and business continuity. Incumbent on the ownership and operation of the electrical infrastructure is the responsibility and regulatory requirement to maintain the system to avoid dangerous situations from occurring. The business case outlining the need for a programme of inspection and testing work on the University’s electrical infrastructure has been approved by UEC and we are currently in the implementation phase. These proposed works are intended to inform and manage the current operational and safety risks, mitigate the potential of unplanned power outages on the University power network, advise on any future recommended work requirements to maintain a safe and reliable power supply and improve the overall resilience of the University’s electrical infrastructure.

Estates and Buildings are carrying out a programme of planned work on the University’s high and low voltage electrical Infrastructure which will involve planned power interruptions to a number of buildings. Buildings without power during the work period should be unoccupied. The planning process has involved stakeholder engagement in areas directly impacted by this work, which is being carried out over a week-end to minimise disruption and inconvenience to building users. Information on where the work is taking place and the associated planned power interruptions is detailed below.
