Effectiveness Review of Boards of Studies

Staff and students are invited to engage with the Effectiveness Review which is jointly led by the University Secretary and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost by providing a response to the online consultation that is taking place during the Evidence Gathering stage of the Review. The Review was established by Senate in May 2017 to conduct a review of the effectiveness of Boards of Studies in support of the delivery of the University Strategy. A copy of the paper presented to Senate, and the membership and terms of reference of the Review are available online
The Review will take place during the remainder of 2017-18, and is divided into three stages:
- Stage 1: Evidence Gathering (December 2017 to 31 January 2018) to include desktop research regarding equivalent structures at a range of HE institutions, a formal invitation to Boards of Studies to submit evidence, and a web-based facility for individual staff and students to provide evidence anonymously. An Evidence Paper will be submitted to February 2018 Senate;
- Stage 2: to develop a Green Paper for presentation to April 2018 Senate;
- Stage 3: following consultation upon the Green Paper, to develop a White Paper for presentation to June 2018 Senate.
Consultation and engagement are key to all stages of the Review. It is essential that all members of the University – staff and students – feel that they are able to contribute to the Review.
The Evidence Stage closes on 31 January 2018. Please ensure that you respond by this date if you would like your submission to inform the development of the Evidence Paper which will be presented to February 2018 Senate.
An online comment facility will be established following the closure of the Evidence Stage for staff and students to provide further comments on Boards of Studies to the Review.
