Donations of unwanted bicycles urgently required
(5 October 2017)
The University is working with Recyke Y’Bike, a local charity, on a cycling project called ‘UniCycle’ to encourage better safety and security for student cyclists. They are fast running out of second hand bike stock and would really appreciate any donations. So if you have an unwanted bike lurking in your shed or garage please dig it out and take it down to the Durham Recyke Y’Bike store at 25 North Road, Durham DH1 4SG (open Wednesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm) where it can be refurbished and sold on.
The Durham store is already very busy at this time of year with the students arriving in the City and buying bikes. In one day along this week they sold 26 bikes. There is a particular need for bikes for tall people. There is a loading bay right outside the shop at 25 North Road, Durham DH1 4SG, so dropping the bike off is not a problem. The ‘UniCycle’ project has been made possible by working in partnership with Recyke Y’Bike, Durham County Council, Cycling UK, Breeze, Living Streets, Durham Constabulary and the University, including St. Mary’s College who will be hosting the cycling and walking event for students in November. Further details about the project for students is available on the Greenspace cycling website. Many thanks in advance for your donations and assistance with this project.
