New Waste Collection Contract
(16 June 2017)
Following a competitive tender exercise the University has appointed O’Brien Waste Solutions Ltd as its new waste contractor. Procurement and Estates and Buildings will be working in partnership with O’Brien to further reduce the amount of University waste that is sent to landfill by increasing the level of recycling and converting the remaining waste to energy. If you have any questions or would like to know more please contact Liam Glasper, Senior Category Manager on ext. 44528 or email email@example.com.
O’Brien also operate Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside universities, providing an opportunity for collaboration with our HE neighbours so we can collectively explore further benefits and savings.
Work is underway on planning the implementation of the contract and the transition from the incumbent contractor, Biffa Waste Services Ltd. The aim is for O’Brien to start their collections on 31 July 2017. There will be further communication with Departments and Colleges over the coming weeks to advise when external waste receptacles will be replaced along with any changes to operations, however, you should experience no (or very minimal) disruption.
