Athena Swan Silver Success
(19 May 2017)
This month the Psychology Department was awarded an accreditation for their work on promoting gender equality, once again achieving silver against the Athena Swan Charter Mark. Established by the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), the Charter recognises and celebrates good practice that supports career progression, by identifying and removing obstacles to advancement, ensuring equal pay and mainstreaming support, through action at all levels across Departments and the wider University.
Our lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Provost and DVC Antony Long sums up what this means for Durham University: “I am absolutely delighted that our Psychology Department has achieved a thoroughly deserved Athena Swan Silver accreditation. The Silver award is recognition that the department has taken action in response to previously identified challenges and has demonstrated the impact of the actions implemented. I'd like to congratulate everyone in the Psychology Department who have worked so hard to promote equality and diversity within its staff and student community, and for leading the way for many future success across the whole university.”
