Institute of Advanced Study - Easter Term Events 2017

(18 May 2017)

The Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) has a wide variety of events this term including lectures, seminars and workshops linked to the Institute’s 2016/17 Scale programme. Most events, and in particular lectures, are free to attend and open to all. For a full list of events, please click here.

Thematic Activities

The IAS theme Scale for academic year 2016/17 can be interpreted spatially, temporally or conceptually. It refers both to things measured and how measurement is done. This research theme is predicated on the idea that seeking common aspects to the study of scale and its effects has the potential to unite, compare and/or contrast phenomena and ideas across all disciplines.

The 2016/17 theme is intended to generate a dialogue between disciplines, and between academics and research users.

Highlights in this year’s programme include: an interdisciplinary workshop comparing the ways in which Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek astrology dealt with the problem of scale; a workshop that will interrogate the role of scale in international legal and governance scholarship; a wide ranging programme that will consider the work of composer Morton Feldman which will include three public concerts, a lecture and study group; a public lecture series on the scale of time; its flow and passage.

Details of our Thematic Acitivities will appear in Dialogue Signposts as listed events, but for more information on our Activities, please visit the following;
