'Give an Hour, Make a Difference' campaign launches this week

We are challenging staff and students to all give at least an hour of their time this summer to volunteer to help make a difference to someone else. This can be volunteering you do on your own, or we have a number of one-off opportunities available - for a list of these and for details on how to register your interest for them, please follow this link.

All Together Durham

This month, sees the launch of the Access and Engagement Team's All Together Durham project. The aim of the project is to positively promote the diversity of our current undergraduate students and to redress any misconceptions or myths associated with studying at Durham. We are doing this by linking those Durham Student Ambassadors who work with us back to their former school or college.

Horizon Europe Information Session: Cluster 5 - Climate, Energy and Mobility

The Research Development team is hosting an information session (including Q&A) for the academic community on the major research themes and calls in Horizon Europe’s ‘Climate, Energy and Mobility’ cluster (cluster 5). This will take place on Wednesday 12 May at 12pm – 1pm via Zoom. How you can help support a healthy community

Wherever you are right now, there are some simple steps we can all take to help support a healthy community.

  • Hands: Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.
  • Face: You must wear a face-covering in many indoor settings unless you are exempt or have a reasonable excuse.
  • Space: You should stay 2 metres apart from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble.
  • Fresh Air: Follow local ventilation guidance and where possible open windows to increase fresh air.

Hybrid working survey for Professional Services staff

During the last year we have changed the way we work, many of us working remotely, and going forward this agile way of doing our jobs, wherever possible, should continue. As part of this, we are looking at how hybrid working could possibly see the creation of new types of workspaces. To help us understand what this may look like we are asking Professional Services staff in central departments, across our faculties, departments and colleges, to complete a short survey about where you work, what activities you undertake, who you work with and what you need from workspaces.

With remote working it can feel we are in more meetings than ever. If you are responsible for agenda creation and minute taking for meetings, we are delighted to offer a workshop to support with successful minute taking. Heather Baker founder of Baker Thompson Associates, will deliver this online interactive workshop providing participants with skills to prepare, write and organised agendas and capture accurate minutes of meetings. Oracle Recruitment system upgrade

The Oracle Recruitment System, Taleo, will be unavailable between 12am and 4am on the morning of Friday 7 May due to a system upgrade. During this period you will not be able to access the Recruitment System. Normal service is expected to resume at around 4am on Friday 7 May and users are not required to take any action once the upgrade is complete.

Research interview techniques conversation

Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) and Durham Research Methods Centre (DRMC) are co-hosting an interdisciplinary research methods conversation for post graduate students and staff to share challenges and top tips for conducting research interviews in a variety of research contexts at 11am-12pm on Wednesday 5 May 2021. This is an interdisciplinary conversation that is free to attend and open to all staff and graduate students, including those experienced in conducting research interviews and those that are new to the approach.

The Three Musketeers audio drama

Durham University Audio Drama Society and Purple Radio are excited to present 'The Three Musketeers', a thrilling new audio drama. The production, involving over forty students, tells the story of four heroic, chivalrous swordsmen fight for justice, honour, and love in 17th-century Paris. It is adapted from perhaps the most famous historical novel of all time, infused with exciting contemporary themes and diversity.
