Community Engagement Task Force update

An update following a recent meeting of the University's Community Engagement Task Force is available on the Community web pages. The Task Force has agreed its Terms of Reference, which can also be viewed on the same web page.

December 2018 payroll

Please note that December’s pay will be made early, on Thursday, 20 December, but this means deadlines need to be brought forward and will be adhered to strictly. The dates were included in Dialogue earlier in the month and are set out below again to ensure everyone is aware. 

  • Contract changes and New Starters information to HR - by Friday, 30 November.
  • Taxable Fees New Starter Forms to HR - by Friday, 30 November.
  • Taxable Fees payments approved by Tuesday, 4 December for payment in December.
  • Expenses Claims approved on Monday, 3 December will be paid on Friday, 7 December.
  • Overtime forms to be submitted to Payroll by Friday, 7 December for payment in December

In addition there will be no second run of expenses in November as the Payroll team will be busy with the December payroll. The expenses in December will be paid earlier though as shown above. There will be no second run of expenses in December as the University will be closed. The next expenses run will be Thursday, 10 January to be paid by Tuesday, 15 January.

Durham Centre for Imaging

In order to reflect the growing use of imaging techniques across all faculties at the University, the Department of Psychology's Durham University NeuroImaging Centre has rebranded as Durham Centre for Imaging. The Centre, affiliated with the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing, has a 3T functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) facility at James Cook University Hospital South Tees with a wealth of plug in equipment including state of the art eye trackers, visual and sound systems. The Department of Psychology also houses a Mock (0T) scanner with an identical setup so that you can test your protocols before using valuable scan time. If you have any questions niklas.ihssen@durham.ac.uk.

Final round of N8 Agrifood Pump Priming Funding closing date

Local pump priming projects are intended to catalyse new multidisciplinary collaborations across the N8 universities and with external agri-food stakeholders. Projects must involve at least two N8 institutions and develop ideas for future funding proposals or other significant outputs. Funds of up to £8,000 are available and more information is available on the website. The closing date for applications is Monday, 31 December.

New Appointment: Deputy Director, Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving

Tristan Alltimes has joined the University as our new Deputy Director for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving in DARO. He brings with him 16+ years experience working in advancement, latterly as the Director of Alumni Relations at Melbourne Business School. Tristan is a regular chair, facilitator, and speaker within the global CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) Network. For further information, please email alumni.office@durham.ac.uk.

Food Bank collection

A Food Collection Box is now situated in Hatfield College's Porter's Lodge. All donations will be given to Durham Foodbank. Non-perishables, such as soup, biscuits and teabags are needed. Other requested donations are milk (UHT or powdered), fruit juice (not chilled), tinned sponge pudding, tinned meat/fish, tinned rice pudding, rice, cereals, instant coffee, jam, sugar, pasta sauce, tinned fruit, snack bars, pasta and instant mashed potato. Durham Foodbank provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. To learn more, please visit their website.

New year, new University network

Come and join like-minded colleagues in similar roles across the University in setting up a cohesive EA/PA community; meeting and getting to know people you only talk to on the phone, and sharing knowledge and best practice. Reverse Advent Calendar

Durham Action on Single Housing is running a Reverse Advent Calendar project for all Colleges. Over the next 14 days, or until the end of term, place one item each day into a cardboard box. Drop off points will be located around the Durham area. Suggested items include: warm clothing (slippers, socks, food), unopened toiletries (deodorant, razors, sanitary products), unopened gifts (books, DVDs, games etc), treats (sweets, chocolates etc). Please email lauren.powdrell@durham.ac.uk for more information.
