Flexible/Casual Appointments

Earlier this year the University concluded a working group, chaired by the Provost, to consider casual/flexible working arrangements across the University. The Group’s recommendations have now been endorsed by Council.

We are mindful of the challenges of the new term and we are therefore going to hold off launching a full new process and toolkit for a short time. In the interim period, HoDs have received communication on the process to hire flexible / casual colleagues – which mirrors the process that colleagues will have been using over the Summer. This includes using new Role Descriptors, ensuring appropriate agreed rates of pay (aligned to our pay scales) and HR will issue updated terms and conditions. For now, departments can continue their usual processes for recruitment and selection.

We will keep under review when would be a more appropriate time to launch the new process and toolkit – ideally this term but possibly very early in the new calendar year. We will also engage with some Departments on a pilot basis (any volunteers, please let know).
