Workshop: What might a socially just low carbon transition involve
The UK Low Carbon Transition Plan sets out "to minimise the costs of the low carbon path and spread them fairly". However, the challenge of a low carbon transition raises issues of justice and fairness‐ both distributional and procedural‐ that have yet to be fully considered.
This workshop seeks to bring together practitioners and academics in order to consider the risks and benefits of the UK's low carbon transition, how vulnerable groups or communities may be affected, and to consider how social justice principles might be integrated into policy and practice.
Key speakers include Mike Childs (Head of Climate Change, Friends of the Earth) and Jonathon Porritt (Forum for the Future) as well as a number of others from across the UK.
If you would like to attend, please register by Friday 18 March 2011(firstname.lastname@example.org).
The workshop is organised under the remit of the EPSRC‐ESRC cluster on Energy Systems, Equity and Vulnerability (InCluESEV) in conjunction with Durham Energy Institute and the Centre for Social Justice and Community Action, Durham University.
