This DEI seminar is presented by Mark Copely, BEIS's lead on work related to Britain’s exit from the European Union in the fields of energy and climate change. The session will:

  • Discuss the key issues for the EU energy sector and climate policies arising from EU Exit.
  • Gain an insight into key issues and government preparations for different potential EU Exit outcomes.
  • Consider the UK’s future relationships with the EU after EU Exit.
  • Provide an opportunity to raise key concerns and ask questions.

Mark Copley joined the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in mid 2018 to oversee work related to Britain’s exit from the European Union in the fields of energy and climate change. He coordinates work across multiple projects including electricity and gas trading, oil stocking and carbon trading. Mark joined BEIS from Ofgem, the energy regulator, where he represented GB and Northern Ireland on the Boards of CEER and ACER, the two European regulatory institutions, and led teams responsible for interconnection, wholesale gas and electricity markets and security of supply. He previously spent almost 4 years in Brussels leading teams within ENTSO-E (the association of European grid operators) drafting the first legally binding set of rules for pan European electricity trading and 4 years as a successful economic consultant. An economist by background, Mark has 15 years experience of working across the energy sector.
