Annual Higginson Lecture: Enabling a Smarter Future
Annual lecture organised by the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. The lecture will focus on the evolution of mobile technology over the last 10 years and likely demands over the next decade
Beginning with a brief introduction to ARM technology and the ARM business model, this presentation looks at the evolution of mobile technology over the last 10 years and likely demands over the next decade. The discussion moves on to highlight several main technical challenges and the sorts of approaches ARM and the industry are adopting to address these. The talk then moves on to look at how mobile technology can be applied to address key societal challenges through use in other applications, creating a smarter future.
Speaker, Warren East was CEO of ARM from 2001 to 2013. ARM’s innovative designs of low-power chips has led to dramatic changes within the industry. These advanced microprocessors have created significant competition for Intel and AMD. The low-power CPUs have enabled powerful smartphones and mobile devices to begin to threaten PCs, in terms of functionality
