Energy Panel: Mexico's Energy Reforms and Global Energy Transitions

Durham University is hosting The UK Symposium of Mexican Studies and Students. As part of the gathering Durham Energy Institute (DEI) have helped organise a special panel discussion on Energy and Sustainability, within the context of Mexico's Energy Reforms, with high profile panellists from the international energy sector.

This panel and the symposium will be introduced by the Mexican Ambassador in the UK, Julian Ventura.

Panellists:

  • Chris Sladen: President of BP Mexico.

  • Professor Jon Gluyas: Director of Durham Energy Institute.

  • Tania Songini: Formerly Chief Financial Officer for Siemens UK.

  • Jose Padilla: Ernest Young International Tax Services Latin America Business Centre (Europe).

The energy reforms in Mexico seek to attract private capital and technical expertise to build the Mexican energy industry, maximize oil and gas revenue, and boost economic growth. The panel aims to provide a general overview of the technological, social, political and economic implications of the Energy reform in Mexico and the great challenges and opportunities that the energy sector will face in the near future.

Background

The Symposium of Mexican Studies and students is an annual multidisciplinary meeting that brings together talented researchers from all over the UK. Throughout fourteen years, the event has become the most relevant academic event in the United Kingdom for students and academics interested in Mexico. This year the event will be hosted by Durham University from 12 to 14 July 2017.

The event has key note speeches and breakout sessions with papers from students across the UK on a wide variety of research areas including Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Energy, Science and Technology.
