Energy CDT visit to Drax Power Station

(22 July 2016)

On 21 July 2016 a group of Energy CDT students visited Drax power station.

Drax is the largest power station in the UK capable of producing 4 GW at full output, approximately 10% of the UK’s electricity requirements. The power station has converted three of its six boilers to run on sustainable wood pellet biomass. The group toured the power station seeing the biomass storage and handling facilities in operation. The tour also included the boilers, the turbine hall and the control room.
