A Research Conversation on Aesthetic Perception
This research conversation explores methodological approaches to the study of aesthetic perception and aesthetics across literary and visual culture studies, anthropology, history, and philosophy. What role do the senses play in shaping our understanding of the past? What is the relationship between aesthetic perception and the recognition of race, gender, and other forms of difference? How can we historicize ephemeral experiences and sensations? And what is the relationship between the form and the content of intellectual inquiry?

12.45-13.00: “Historicising the Eye: Norms and Deviations in Taste”, Tom Stammers (History)
