N8 AgriFood is a unique programme working across the entire food system, combining expertise from the 8 most research intensive universities in the North of England: Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and York. The aim of the programme is to harness the collective expertise of the 8 institutions to tackle the challenge of food security regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Durham Centre for Crop Improvement Technology (DCCIT) directs Durham University's research strength in Agritechnology towards this major challenge of food security, as well as industrial plant-biotechnology. All members of DCCIT have multiple links with industry in the Agritechnology and food security sectors plus collaborators in other N8 institutions. The N8 Agrifood resilience programme is allowing Durham to drawn upon multidisciplinary expertise across the N8 in formulating teams to make competitive bids for external funding from Research councils, Innovate UK, and Industry.
