Celebrate the Year of the Ox with us

(11 February 2021)

We may not be able to celebrate in person this year but there are still plenty of ways you can get involved with welcoming in the Year of the Ox, online.

Online celebrations

The annual celebrations usually hosted by our Oriental Museum are going online, with everything from craft activities and games, to recipes for delicious New Year dumplings and Bubble Tea, available.

There are also musical performances and a performance of the ancient story of how the animals were chosen for the Chinese zodiac.

Ancient art

You could also take a video tour of our exhibition on the legacy of Lu Xun, one of the leading cultural figures of 20th century China.

Lu Xun was a leading left-wing writer who took the ancient and neglected art of woodblock printing, and used it as a tool for social change and national resistance.

Lu Xun's Legacy: Print Making in Modern China is one of a number of exhibitions available online through our Explore from Home series, to help you enjoy our museums and collections safely until they can reopen.
