New Colleges facilities open, with commitment to community building

(16 September 2020)

South College

We want to grow the University in a way that builds community and so that the benefits are felt across our City and region. So we’re excited to have completed our Mount Oswald development.

What is Mount Oswald?

The Mount Oswald development includes a new home for John Snow College and the all-new South College.

It also features a Hub building, including a large events hall, and a multi-use games area.

It’s situated on South Road, Durham City, opposite the Howlands Park and Ride site.

The first students have now moved in, ahead of new undergraduates arriving from Thursday 24 September.

Building community

Staff and students at both Colleges want to build links and friendships with their neighbours.

Several productive meetings have been held with local residents and we’re looking forward to contributing positively to the community at Mount Oswald and across the south of the City.

Growing responsibly

Creating new Colleges is part of our ten-year Strategy to grow the University responsibly, in a way that benefits our City and region.
