We are proud to have supported the Virtual Durham City Run Festival, which raised thousands of pounds for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham.

What was the Virtual Durham City Run Festival?

The Durham City Run Festival is an annual celebration of fitness and physical activity which takes place in Durham each July.

We’re proud to support the event and this year we were gearing up to be more involved than ever before: hosting many events at our Sports and Wellbeing Park.

Due to Covid-19, the Festival couldn’t take place as planned.

But a Virtual festival went ahead from July 16 to 19, with participants running solo 5km, 10km or one-mile routes and submitting their times via an app.

How did it go?

Around 900 people took part, from as far away as Qatar, Indonesia and Singapore.

A proportion of every entry fee went to St Cuthbert’s Hospice, raising £2,500 for the charity.

Hundreds more people enjoyed online events, including an All Star Question of Sport tthat we hosted, featuring some of the biggest names in British athletics alongside University staff and students.

What’s next?

You can still enjoy the All Star Question of Sport and other events on the Events of the North Facebook page.

We hope the Durham City Run Festival will be able to return to the City’s streets in October, Covid-19 restrictions permitting.
