Spring has sprung at the Assembly Rooms Theatre

(28 January 2020)

Signs of spring are popping up around Durham and there’s no better time to celebrate the launch of our spring season at the Assembly Rooms Theatre.

The season launch comes hot off the heels of the official launch of our Assembly Rooms Theatre following a year-long, £2.5 million restoration project. The official launch event, opened by our Chancellor Sir Thomas Allen, was an artistic showcase featuring performances by current students and alumni as well as talks by community artists.

What's on?

The theatre will be home to local theatre companies Grim Up North and Elysium Theatre, as well as Durham University Student Theatre, and we hope that the talent on display will enhance the City’s cultural scene.

The spring programme features something for everyone, including poetry, comedy, landmark drama and a sprinkling of Shakespeare. Highlights include a performance by multi-award-winning performance poet and alumnus of the Durham Revue, Bróccán Tyzack-Carlin, an Edinburgh Fringe sell-out hit and a preview of the Durham Showcase 2020 before it travels to The Tristan Bates Theatre in London.
