Our popular concert series MUSICON is returning for its 50th season, with a special anniversary programme of events lined up for everyone to enjoy.

What is MUSICON?

An annual concert series featuring the best performers from our world-leading Music Department and visiting musicians from across the world.

Since it began in 1969, MUSICON has featured more than 500 events and music from the Middle Ages to the present.

What’s happening this year?

Three concerts held on October 26 and 27 included music from six Durham-based composers, performed by the world-leading contemporary music group the Ives Ensemble.

The next event is on Tuesday 19 November, when John Snijders, an Associate Professor with us and a leading pianist, will give a concert titled Flexibility and Freedom, featuring works by Hensel-Mendelssohn, Hummel and Schubert.

In February, the acclaimed vocal group EXAUDI performing in the Chapter House of Durham Cathedral.

Visiting musicians from India will perform in a three-concert series titled Indian Spring Colours as Holi, the Hindu festival of colour, approaches in March.

Finally, in May, The Brodsky Quartet will perform works by Schubert, Webern and Zemlinsky.
