How we’re working ‘4schools’ more than ever before…

(4 September 2019)

We’re passionate about inspiring learning among people of all ages. So we’re very proud that our ‘4schools’ team worked with more young people than ever before last year.

From nursery children to A-level students, we worked with 24,506 young people across the year.

What we did…

Our ‘4schools’ team runs visits, workshops and talks for school groups to explore our museums, attractions and collections.

These include the Oriental Museum, Palace Green Library and the Botanic Garden.

We also do lots of work beyond the University, in schools and communities.

The year at a glance…

Our outreach team reached 9,794 children (our biggest year ever).

Our Oriental Museum worked with 7,181 children.

November was our most popular month on record – we worked with 4,045 children. That’s up from 780 children just 11 years ago.

We worked with 334 primary schools, 29 secondary schools and sixth forms and eight Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools.

We worked with every single primary school in County Durham.

How can I get involved?

If you have children under five, maybe they’d enjoy our Little Dragons club. Sessions include songs, story time, crafts, role-play and more.

Don’t miss Wild: A Celebration of the Natural History of the British Isles, at Palace Green Library until October.
