Come visit our new Fitness Centre
(23 July 2019)
We believe sport and exercise can bring people of all backgrounds together. That’s why we’ve long made our sports facilities at Maiden Castle open to the local community, as well as our staff and students.
We’re currently investing £32 million upgrading these facilities to create the Durham University Sports and Wellbeing Park, which will offer more space, more classes, and better facilities for all users.
Join us for opening weekend
As part of this project, we’re very pleased to invite everyone to a free opening weekend for our new Fitness Centre, from July 26-28.
You can: tour the new facilities, try out the equipment, and chat with staff.
There will also be competitions, challenges, and prize giveaways.
What does the Fitness Centre offer?
We’ve got the latest state-of-the-art fitness equipment, including cardiovascular and resistance equipment, and fitness trackers.
Membership of the new Fitness Centre is available, priced £250 for the first year, or £25 per month. Classes are included at no extra charge, and members can also a hire a personal trainer. For more information, call 0191 334 2178.
The first phase of the Durham University Sports and Wellbeing Park includes the creation of a new indoor cricket hall; a 12-court multi-use sports hall suitable for national and international competitions; a martial arts dojo; a fitness centre; recovery facilities; and high-performance weights rooms. This new-build facility will be completed this summer.
Then our original sports centre will undergo a major refurbishment, to increase the facilities available for fitness classes and create a specialist sports laboratory. This second phase will be completed this winter.
