One of the pleasures of doing science outreach work in North East schools is that we get to meet so many inspiring young people – the world-changers of the future.

So it was our pleasure to honour the next generation of scientists at our annual Durham Schools’ Physicist of the Year awards.

What are the awards for?

They recognise students who have worked hard, made great contributions in class or made impressive progress over the past year.

The winners are nominated by their teachers.

This year, 35 young people from schools and colleges across the region were chosen.

We host the awards ceremony for all the winners, plus their families and teachers, at our Calman Learning Centre. The evening also includes interactive experiments, led by staff and students from our world-leading Physics Department.
