Summer in the City Festival to showcase Durham’s best theatre, music and art

The first Summer in the City Festival is taking place in Durham throughout June, celebrating the best of the City’s theatre, music and art.
We’re working with Durham County Council and North East artists to bring a dynamic programme of events to celebrate the cultural life of Durham. Here’s a selection of what’s on offer.
What’s on – art
#VisibleWomen – Women artists from Durham’s Collection: a free exhibition focusing on women artists. At our Palace Green Library, 1-30 June.
Plus creative workshops for everyone, an art market and art tours.
What’s on – theatre
The Spare Room, a temporary theatre venue, will host new shows by local and student artists.
The Tempest, by Durham Student Theatre. At the Gala Theatre, Wednesday 26 June.
Love’s Labour’s Lost by our Castle Theatre Company. At Fellows Garden, Durham Castle, 21-22 June.
Iolanthe by our Durham Opera Ensemble. At St John’s College, 22-23 June.
Plus many more theatre productions, and workshops on theatre writing, producing and acting.
What’s on – music
Two shows featuring musical favourites from the stage and the screen, by some of the best of our student musicians. At Durham Cathedral and the Gala Theatre, 8 and 10 June.
A Symphonic Journey, by our Orchestral Society. At Durham Cathedral, Saturday 22 June.
DJAZZ The Durham City Jazz Festival. At various venues, 7-9 June.
Plus other concerts right across the City.
