A new window has been unveiled at Durham Cathedral in memory of Sara Pilkington, who died while studying with us in 2012.

A student at Collingwood College, Sara died of a cardiac-related condition.

Her parents, Jools and Jonathan Pilkington, have been working with the Cathedral for six years to create a permanent memorial for their daughter.

Here, they established the Sara Pilkington Personal Development Fund, which assists Collingwood students from low income backgrounds.

Sara is also remembered at the College via a cherry tree and a plaque.

Professor Joe Elliott, Principal at Collingwood, said that Sara’s smile lit up the world, and her energy and creativity made a huge contribution to the College community.

The stained glass Illumination Window can be seen on the Cathedral’s north side and is accompanied by an interpretation board.
