Keeping our riverbanks clean and tidy

(15 April 2019)

Staff, students and local residents have joined forces to tidy up our beautiful riverbanks.

Around 15 volunteers spent a day picking up litter along the River Wear in Durham. After four hours, they had filled dozens of bags of rubbish.

Lauren Conway, an Education undergraduate at Josephine Butler College, organised the clean-up. She said: “It was great to see students, staff and local families all caring for our wonderful city.

“It was lovely to get such a nice group of people together and I think we made a real difference to the riverbanks.”

There was also a wildlife talk from Durham Wildlife Trust, a shared picnic, games and storytelling for children.

Thanks go to Durham County Council for supplying litter pickers.
