Durham students will be Singin’ in the rain

(8 January 2019)

Students will be ‘singin’ in the rain’ this January, as they sing and dance their way into the New Year bringing the classic Hollywood musical to the stage.

Durham University Light Opera Group (DULOG) will be taking over Durham’s Gala Theatre from 15 – 19 January, to perform the ever popular show, including the famous title song, complete with rain!

Thanks to a special indoor rain machine, the highlight of the show promises to be a rendition of the wet and wonderful dance routine made famous by Gene Kelly.

Adapted from the beloved film hailed as the Greatest Movie Musical of All Time, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ offers everything you could want from a musical; singing, dancing, romance and comedy.

Over 85 students are involved in what promises to be a stunning production, appealing to all ages.

Company President Caroline Mosimann said: “For many years DULOG has floated the idea of putting on ‘Singin' in the Rain’ but found the prospects of onstage rain and the extraordinary tap requirements too daunting. This year we have taken on these challenges and the results have been really stunning.

“DULOG has been producing high quality shows in Durham for over 75 years and we look forward to performing in the Gala every year, it’s a brilliant venue and allows us to raise our production’s quality of professionalism to the next level.”

In recent years DULOG have performed ‘Spamalot’ and ‘Suessical the Musical’ at the Gala, so they are no strangers to creating ambitious productions.
