Master of University College
That Professor David Held be appointed as the Master at University College with effect from 1 January 2012.
Professor Held gained a BSc from Manchester University Institute of Science & Technology in 1973 and an MSc and PhD both from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975 and 1976 respectively.
He comes to Durham from London School of Economics where he has held the post of Graham Wallas Professor of Political Science since October 2000. He is also Co-Director of LSE Global Governance and Visiting Professor of Global Policy at the Central European University.
Professor Held has published extensively and this year published Cosmopolitan: Ideals and Realities.
He is a member of several professional bodies including:
• Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (elected 1994);
• Fellow of the World Economic Forum (from 2001);
• Chair of the Jury of the Distinguished Estorial Book Prize on Global Issues (from 2010).
