David Kennedy, BA MTh PhD
The Reverend Canon David Kennedy is the Acting Dean of Durham. In this capacity he is an ex-officio member of Council.
David read Theology in Durham (John’s, 1975-8); he obtained a Masters degree from Nottingham University in 1981 and a PhD from Birmingham University in 1996.
He was ordained in 1981 and after curacies in Spennymoor and Kirk Merrington, was appointed as Tutor in Christian Worship and Liturgy at Queen’s College, Birmingham, and part-time Lecturer in in Department of Theology at Birmingham University. In 1996 he was appointed Rector of St Andrew’s Church, Darlington, and since 1996 he has been a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Theology and Religion in Durham. He currently teaches an MA Course. In 2001 he was appointed as a Canon Residentiary of Durham Cathedral, becoming Vice-Dean in 2004 and serving as Precentor. He also teaches at Cranmer Hall and is a Visiting Fellow of St John’s College. He was Chaplain and College Officer of Grey College from 2001-8. He is author of books on Christian worship and eucharistic theology.
