Council

Mrs Jane Robinson, BA, MA, MBA, FRSA

Jane is the University’s Chief Operating Officer. She is a member of the University Executive Committee and is in attendance at Council meetings.

Jane joined Durham University in September 2016 and is responsible for the effective leadership, alignment and provision of the Professional Support Services that underpin the delivery of the University Strategy (Advancement - Development and Alumni Relations; Computing and Information Services; Estates and Facilities; Human Resources and Organisation Development; International Office; Library and Museum Services; Marketing and Communications). She is also an important spokesperson for the University on regional, national and international affairs.

Before taking up her position at Durham she was Chief Executive of Gateshead Council, responsible for 5,500 employees and an annual turnover in excess of £500m. Achievements include delivering multi-million pound regeneration projects across Gateshead, including the £150m Town Centre redevelopment; embedding a high performance culture; optimising commercial opportunities and leading the development of an employee engagement programme.

She has previously held positions as Assistant Chief Executive of Gateshead Council and as Director of External Relations at Arts Council England, where she led major corporate projects including Local Government liaison, creative industries development and major capital schemes, including the £70m Sage Gateshead.

Jane holds an MBA from Durham University and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in English Literature (University of Leeds and University of Sheffield respectively)

She is also a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) and holds non-executive positions with the Big Lottery Fund; the North Music Trust and Tyne and Wear Community Foundation.
