The Collegiate Office

Postgraduate College Residence Charges 2017-18

Durham University is a collegiate university and there are currently 16 colleges in total. All colleges accept postgraduate students and all students are required to be a member of a college. There are fourteen colleges in Durham City and two at Queen’s Campus, Stockton.

College membership and accommodation for postgraduates is co-ordinated through the Colleges and Student Experience Office. Once you have accepted your offer from your academic department, the Colleges and Student Experience Office will contact you with further information about college membership and accommodation options. You don’t need to specify a college preference, but can do if you want to. Please note, if you do not complete the College Membership and Accommodation form, you will be allocated membership of a college.

Durham University offers an accommodation guarantee for full-time postgraduate applicants who meet certain conditions. Whilst every college has accommodation, because of our varied and historic estate, there may be different types and limited availability depending on college.

In 2017/18 Ustinov College will be offering single accommodation at its two sites - Howlands and Sheraton Park. The latter will be the new long-term home for Ustinov College from 2018/19 onwards. Ustinov College (Sheraton Park) is a new development offering self-catered postgraduate only accommodation. Residence Charges will be the same at Howlands and Sheraton Park.

All family accommodation and some couples accommodation is based at Dryburn Court, part of Ustinov College. Couples accommodation is also based at the Ustinov Sheraton Park site.
