Colleges' Research & Scholarship Group

Terms of Reference

Purpose:

The Colleges Research and Scholarship Group (CRSG) is an interdisciplinary and intercollegiate forum with representation from each of the 16 Durham Colleges. The primary purpose of the group is to enhance research and scholarship across the Colleges, to introduce students to a wide range of research and scholarship opportunities and to support the work of colleagues across faculties, academic departments, research institutes and centres.

CRSG will help meet the University’s strategic objectives for research and scholarship, including: the generation of research excellence across the entire academic base of the University; the development of interdisciplinary scholarship; and the development of Durham’s profile nationally and internationally.

Objectives:

CRSG will:

  • Provide a supportive interdisciplinary space in which colleagues from across the Colleges can meet to share ideas and developments relating to scholarship and research;

  • Provide a mechanism for information exchange about matters of research and scholarship across the Colleges;

  • Coordinate research activities and share good practice across colleges;

  • Contribute to the Colleges’ planning processes with regard to research and scholarship;

  • Develop initiatives relating to Visiting and Honorary Fellows;

  • Enhance links with academic departments and research centres/ institutes;

  • Contribute to the development of JCRs, MCRs and SCRs as vehicles for development of scholarship in Colleges;

  • Maximise Colleges’ potential for driving the University’s research impact agenda;

  • Develop the Colleges web presence as it relates to research and scholarship; and

  • Oversee the publication of the Colleges Annual Report.

Membership:

  • Chair (Deputy Head of Colleges, Research and Scholarship)

  • 1 representative from each of the 16 colleges, normally Principal/ Vice Principal

  • Administrative support will be provided by the Colleges Office

Frequency of meetings:

  • Once termly in term time. 3 per year.
