Abstract

Kate became Deputy Warden and Tutor in Homiletics in April 2013, having previously held parish and chaplaincy posts after ordination in 2001, coming from a background as a secondary school teacher. Kate completed her PhD in preaching and imagination in 2013. She is currently researching the connection between entertainment and theology, particularly whether preaching should be entertaining, identifying the positive in entertainment as well as its more common perception as distraction. She has recently branched out into stand-up comedy and moonlights as ‘Woman of the Cloth’. Kate organizes and teaches on the popular Durham Preaching Conferences, day conferences designed to inspire, support and enable preachers. Kate is often asked to lead events on preaching for new and more experienced preachers, and has recently developed the Durham Preaching School in partnership with Fusion, aimed at supporting and encouraging younger preachers.
