Durham University

Computing and Information Services

Virtual Private Network

This service provides eligible users with a method of connecting to the University network from any location via the Internet. Once connected to the VPN, a University IP address is assigned and all network traffic is routed via the University allowing access to University networked resources that might otherwise be inaccessible. Effectively this means that your device is part of the University network and you have access to resources just as if you were at your desk at work.

What can I use the VPN for?

When you are connected to the VPN you have access to resources that reside on the University network even if they are not normally available over the internet. So you can remotely connect to your University PC or other equipment that resides on the network, or access internal web/intranet pages that are not normally accessible from the internet.
