Remote Access
Computing & Information Services provide a range of options that enable you to work remotely, whether using a University managed or non-managed device.
Overview of services
MDS Remote |
If you are using a University-managed windows device (MDS) then you will have remote access using our MDS Remote service, this service gives off-campus users the same access to University network resources as if you were on the University network, for example, S and J drives. Please note a small number of University network resources/applications are restricted by enhanced security or network controls and you will need to use the Access VPN solution (at present this is Oracle Financials and Oracle Discover). Note: During the Covid-19 lockdown users need to install the new Remote Access service, please follow these instructions. |
Access VPN |
Access VPN gives users on non-managed devices (often referred to as BYOD) a secure connection to network resources which otherwise would not be accessible when working remotely. Access VPN also allows managed windows devices (MDS) access to network resources/applications which are restricted by enhanced security or network controls (such as Oracle Financials and Oracle Discoverer) Access VPN is secured using MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) Please note our managed windows users (MDS) should only need to use the Access VPN in a small number of cases where access to resources/applications are restricted by enhanced security or network controls. |
AppsAnywhere | AppsAnywhere provides the ability to run applications on any machine when working remotely and allows access to many corporate applications and tools, giving access University IT services such as personal storage (J:/) and departmental storage (S:/) drives) from any location via the Internet. |
Microsoft 365 | Microsoft 365 provides a suite of collaboration and business automation tools which can be accessed both on and off-campus. Further information can be found here |
