Replacement of local admin privileges on MDS
(22 January 2020)
From mid-February, we'll be replacing local adminstrative priviledges on MDS with self-elevation.
UEC has decided to stop providing local administrative capabilities for users of the CIS Managed Desktop Service. This is to help us better manage our GDPR obligations and reduce our exposure to cyber-attacks.
If you believe you still require ongoing or ad hoc elevated privileges, for example to run software, you can request an alternative offering via the IT Service Desk. This change will take effect from 17 February 2020, when we will remove local administrative privileges from all MDS devices.
Please note, in 17/1/20 issue of Dialogue Signpost, we incorrectly reported that the Operations Board had decided to stop providing local administrative capabilities for users of the CIS Managed Desktop Service, when it was indeed UEC who had taken this decision. Our apologies for any confusion.
