Good news! As a member of staff or a student at Durham University, you are eligible to install Microsoft Office (now referred to as Microsoft 365) free of charge.

This particular offer is available to staff, undergraduates, taught postgraduates and distance learners at Durham University.

This includes:

  • The latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access and Publisher installed on up to five PCs or Macs and up to five mobile devices e.g. iPads and Android tablets
  • 1TB of storage on OneDrive, which you can use to store and share all your documents across all your devices
  • Office on the web, for in-browser editing, collaboration and co-authoring

To install Office, simply login to and on the right of the page click 'Install Office'. There is a video guide here with more detail. Along with a text guide with screenshots here (please note that both links take you to Microsoft's web-pages).

Microsoft provides extensive help and guidance for all Office applications, this is a good place to start: Microsoft's Office 365 quick start guides.

Note that this is an extension of your University IT provision, the use of, and any data stored on Office 365 with this offer is done so under the University's 365 tenant, of which Durham has full control over.

When you leave or graduate and your University email account is closed and you'll no longer be able to take advantage of this.
