Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get help with writing reports?
Please visit the Microsoft web site for help with running and writing reports.
How do I request access to Power BI?
Power BI is not currently widely available. For any enquiries about this service, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Why am I being asked for extra security information?
Power BI uses Multi-Factor Authentication, which means that when you are not on the university network (Lan or WiFi) you will be asked to authenticate your device, as a one-off per device (e.g. phone, laptop, etc.).
Please be aware that text message verification is no longer supported. You must use the Microsoft Authenticator app code instead.
There are some locations around the University where you will be prompted for this extra information even when you are connected to the network as normal.
If this happens, then please contact the Service Desk and ask for this to be fixed, via the self-service portal, New Call option. The Service Desk will need to know your location (building / room) and IP address: for Windows machines your address can be found by opening the Command Prompt window, type the command “ipconfig” and press enter, the information required are the numbers next to the label ‘Ipv4 Address’. Please also inform the Service Desk if you can use Multi-Factor authentication on different machines.
Please give the brief description as “Microsoft Power BI multi-factor authentication”.
