Registration & Quarantine
The first time you connect to the University network at the start of the academic year, your device will need to go through a registration and security process to make sure that you and our networks are protected. It's quite straightforward - just follow the steps below.
- To get onto the student network, connect your laptop/PC/Mac to DU Student (your dedicated wireless service) - it's available across the University and in all colleges.
- Open up a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.) and you will see the following:
- Select ‘Continue’
- You will be shown a list of the policies which govern your use of University IT services including the wireless network.
- You will need to agree to abide by those policies before you can continue.
- Select ‘I agree’
- You will then see the following:
- Enter your CIS username and password and your college.
- You don’t have to enter your mobile number but it can be useful if you experience problems and we need to contact you.
- Select ‘Register’
- You will be offered the option to save or run the Bradford Campus Manager
- We recommend that you save it to your desktop just in case your machine doesn’t pass the scan and you need to do it again.
- Once you have saved it to your desktop, run Bradford Campus Manager and the scan will run and check your machine has the appropriate anti-malware software, updates and patches.
- Whilst the scan is running Window’s machines will show this page
- Mac users will see a bouncing icon in their menu bar.
- Once your machine has passed the scan, it will count down for 60 seconds (or 90 seconds on a Macbook) and then you can close the web browser.
- To confirm you now have access to the network, open another web browser and open a web page e.g. BBC, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
If your machine doesn’t pass the scan….don ‘t panic! Just take the following steps…
- If your machine does not pass the scan, you will see the following:
- It lists the tests you have failed and those you have passed.
- If you have the appropriate anti-malware (e.g. anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.), but it isn’t up-to-date, the failed tests will show as links to updates and patches. To be able to access the network, you’ll need to download the appropriate updates or patches from here and then run the scan again.
- If you don’t have any anti-malware or if yours isn’t one of our accepted packages, the failed tests will show as links to software you can download. In order to update your machine you will need to download or activate one of these.
- Our recommendation for Windows 7 is Microsoft Security Essentials, which you'll need to download. For Windows 8 onwards we recommend you activate Windows Defender which should already be installed on your machine. For Mac devices we recommend Sophos.
Please note that if you have existing anti-virus software on your machine that isn’t one of our accepted packages you MUST remove it before downloading one of the approved packages. Having more than one anti-virus package on your machine will mean that they operate against each other and slow your machine down.
- Mac users should scroll down to the bottom of this page to the Mac Antivirus Software section:
- Once you have downloaded the relevant software or update, you will need to run the Bradford Campus Manager scan again.
- You can do either from your desktop (if you’ve saved it there) although you’ll need to be connected to the network for this to work. Alternatively open up a web browser and you should be taken to the first screen (at the top of this page) to start the process again.
