Credit Bearing Courses
Credit Bearing Modules in Foreign Languages
Durham University's Centre for Foreign Language Study (CFLS) offers a wide range of credit bearing language modules open to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our modules are generally aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), with levels from A1 (Beginner) to in some languages C1 (Advanced).
The following table lists the open language modules that we expect to run in 2017-18, subject to sufficient registration numbers. Courses run from October to June annually, commencing week beginning 9th October 2017.
|Entry/exit level or prior study||Stage 1Beginner to A1||Stage 2A1 (GCSE)-A2||Stage 3A2(AS level)-B1||Stage 4B1 (A level)-B2||Stage 5B2-B2+/C1 (Advanced)||Stage 6C1|
For further details, please contact email@example.com.
The modules are open to all Durham University undergraduate and taught postgraduate students, providing they take no more than 30 credits below their level of study, and subject to individual degree programme restrictions.
Each module is worth 20 credits [10 ECTS] and is taught over 21 weeks. Taught mainly in Elvet Riverside, each module has 2-3 hours per week class time (subject to level and language), and students are expected to study independently for around 5 hours per week. In the more popular modules there are multiple groups to maximise flexibility for students across the University.
All modules are examined with written, oral and aural assessments (the latter at Stages 1 and 2 only), and regular formative assessment.
