Grant Success for Liz Atar

(26 May 2017)

One of our CeREES PhD students has recently been awarded a grant from the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) Postgraduate Grant Scheme. Elizabeth Atar, a NERC Oil and Gas student, is using sedimentology and geochemistry to test the use of a global circulation model as a source rock prediction tool. The grant will pay for a set of high-quality mudstone thin sections to be made in a specialist lab. Detailed petrographic investigation of organic-rich sediments will be used to contextualise geochemical data, constrain the diagenetic history in the samples, and explore the distribution of elements/mineral phases on a micron-scale.
