Equality, Diversity and Inclusion E-Learning

A new online e-learning course, “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion” is now available on DUO at https://duo.dur.ac.uk under the “My Organisations & Online Training” section of the homepage. The course is open to all staff and is designed to raise awareness of key aspects of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. It is delivered as a series of Chapters which staff can work through at their own pace and convenience. All staff are encouraged to undertake the training and complete the Self-Declaration.

Unconscious Bias Workshop

Runs Monthly

The Unconscious Bias workshop explores our implicit people preferences, the ways in which we subconsciously process information and how our subconscious processes can result in faulty and sometimes biased decisions. We will consider how this affects work in departments and across the University, and review techniques to help reduce the impact of bias.

Respecting Others: Challenging Negative Behaviours

Runs Monthly

This workshop will consider harassment, bullying and micro behaviours, including micro inequities and micro affirmations. It will explore strategies for effectively challenging ourselves and others including the use of micro affirmations, feedback skills, and bystander interventions to ensure all staff are supported in creating a more inclusive environment.

Disability Awareness in Learning & Teaching

Runs Termly

This workshop will aim to ensure all participants have the opportunity to explore how to both facilitate learning and create a more inclusive environment for disabled students. It will provide staff with an enhanced awareness of the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. The need for an anticipatory and collaborative approach to reasonable adjustments is emphasized. This course is delivered with colleagues from Disability Support.

Safeguarding from Radicalisation E-Learning

The ‘Safeguarding from radicalisation’ e-learning course is designed to raise awareness of the government’s Prevent agenda which is part of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy. As one of a number of ‘specified authorities’ the University has a statutory duty to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”.

Available on DUO at https://duo.dur.ac.uk under the “My Organisations & Online Training” section of the homepage, the content is focused on safeguarding and support. We consider the influencing factors potentially involved with radicalisation, explore how to recognise individuals who may be vulnerable and in need of support, and cover the core structure of ‘Notice-Check-Share’ (the procedure for sharing concerns to receive a proportionate response).
