Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Training
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion training is provided by CAROD.
For more information, contact Michelle Taylor (email@example.com).
Our training courses include:
Equality and Diversity Workshop
This three hour interactive session starts with key concepts, considers stereotyping and prejudice, and then concludes with an exploration of the nature and forms of discrimination with particular reference to the legislation.
Participants will also be able to consider their own role and responsibilities in creating a work and study environment which is free from discrimination and enables individuals and teams to reach their full potential.
Unconscious Bias Workshop
The Unconscious Bias workshop explores our implicit people preferences, the ways in which we subconsciously process information and how our subconscious processes can result in faulty and sometimes biased decisions. We will consider how this affects work in departments and across the University, and review techniques to help reduce the impact of bias.
Disability Awareness in Learning & Teaching
This workshop will aim to ensure all participants have the opportunity to explore how to both facilitate learning and create a more inclusive environment for disabled students. It will provide staff with an enhanced awareness of the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. The need for an anticipatory and collaborative approach to reasonable adjustments is emphasized. This course is delivered with colleagues from Disability Support.
Safeguarding from Radicalisation
The 'Safeguarding from radicalisation' workshop is designed to raise awareness of the government’s Prevent agenda which is part of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy. As one of a number of ‘specified authorities’ the University has a statutory duty to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”.
This two hour workshop will focus on safeguarding and support. We will consider the influencing factors potentially involved with radicalisation, explore how to recognise individuals who may be vulnerable and in need of support, and cover the core structure of ‘Notice-Check-Share’ (the procedure for sharing concerns to receive a proportionate response).
Respecting Others: Challenging Negative Behaviours
This workshop will consider harassment, bullying and micro behaviours, including micro inequities and micro affirmations. It will explore strategies for effectively challenging ourselves and others including the use of micro affirmations, feedback skills, and bystander interventions to ensure all staff are supported in creating a more inclusive environment.
