Lionel Blue Public Semniar - 'The Media And Religion: IS the Treatment Always Fair?'

Lionel Blue, who is an Honorary Fellow of Grey College, is chairing a series of five seminars during the Easter Term.
This seminar will be delivered by Roger Bolton. The seminars will attempt to answer the broad question: 'Why has science been such an apparent success, and religion such an apparent failure, over the last century?'

Roger Bolton has worked in broadcasting since leaving University in the late ‘60s. He has been editor of Tonight, Panorama and Nationwide and was, until recently, the presenter of the religious affairs programme Sunday. Roger has founded or co-founded two independent production companies and is Fellow of the Royal Television Society.

Rabbi Dr Lionel Blue studied history at University before training as a Reform Rabbi. His published work is in the field of liturgy and has had extensive pastoral experience. He is a popular author and broadcaster on religious matters.

Tuesday 18th May - Mike Parsons: “An attempt at some response and reconciliation”.
Mike Parsons initially studied science at University and, after a research degree in low temperature solid-state physics, studied theology and subsequently was ordained as an Anglican priest. Mike is a canon of Gloucester cathedral and the Principal of the West of England Ministerial Training Course. Mike has written extensively on matters of science and religion and is a member of the Oxford theology faculty. During his time at Durham, Mike was a Tutor at Grey College.

Tuesday 25th May - Carlos Frenk: “Recent advances in fundamental physical science and cosmology and potential areas of conflict”
Carlos Frenk is a renowned cosmologist. He is Professor in the Department of Physics at Durham with broad research interests in Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology. Carlos has written extensively on the origins of the Universe and is a regular broadcaster on TV and radio. Carlos is a Fellow of the Royal Society.
