Advanced Research Computing

Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is a dedicated computing support unit within the Research Division of the University. We support academic researchers in all faculties across the University, where there is a requirement for the use of computers as part of their research. We provide facilities and expertise, connect people across different disciplines, and build on the services provided by Computing and Information Services. Our range of activity extends from simple coding assistance through to supporting computationally intensive research requiring High Performance Computing.

Introduction to Data Analysis with Python

18th November 2021, 10:00 to 13:00, Jonathan Frawley

Have you ever copied and pasted values around in an excel spreadsheet and wondered if there was a better way? Do you have basic programming skills in Python?

Then this is the course for you!

The automated analysis of data is becoming increasingly important for researchers as data sets become larger and easier to access. This course will introduce you to some of the fundamental concepts around data analysis. Topics covered will include:

  • Probability theory
  • Data visualisation

This session will be a mix of theory and practical examples which use the Python programming language and the Pandas library. At the end of the session you will be able to use Python to read real-world CSV datasets and visualise them.
