Academic Skills Workshops
Who are they for?
Taught students are welcome to attend. Most are open to any year and any department but some workshops are tailored specifically for undergraduates or taught postgraduates, or for students from particular faculties. This is specified in the course title or description.
When, where and how are they run?
Run at venues across Durham, the workshops are offered at various times, including lunchtimes and early evenings and range in length from 50 minutes to 3 hours.
The workshops include group work, individual exercises and hand outs, giving you an opportunity to try out and discuss the skills explored.
Which should I attend?
You can attend as few or as many as you need but it is important to make best use of your time and think carefully about the academic skills you need to develop. Your Academic Advisor can help you decide which workshops will be most useful.
How do I book?
To help us manage the workshops effectively, it is important that you book places.
Workshops will be advertised before the start of each term and places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. You can book places at: https://www.dur.ac.uk/training.course/ . You will need your ITS username and password to access the booking system.
If the workshop you are booking on is full you will be added to the waiting list and notified if a place becomes available.
How do I cancel a booking?
If you find you are unable to attend a workshop, please cancel your booking via the My Training Record link on the Training Course Booking System https://www.dur.ac.uk/training.course/ , as soon as possible. If you are prevented from attending at the last minute (less than 24 hours) please contact email@example.com .
Download certificates of attendance
You can download a certificate of attendance for each workshop you attend. Click on My Training Record link on the Training Course Booking System https://www.dur.ac.uk/training.course/ , then click on the link in the 'certificate of attendance' column.
Although we monitor attendance to make sure we are providing the right courses at the right time, your bookings are confidential and we will not inform departments of the names of students attending workshops.
