Durham philosopher explores the mystery of existence with his second book
A researcher in our Philosophy department has released his second book, which aims to explore the mysteries behind how everything came to exist.
Exploring the mysteries of existence
Hot on the heels of the first release in his Bloomsbury collection, Dr Jack Symes has penned his second effort: ‘Philosophers on God: Talking about Existence.’
The book sees Jack call on the views of some of the world’s most respected influential thinkers through remastered interviews and essays, whilst guiding the reader through to try and unravel the mysteries of existence.
A wide range of views
The book includes contributions on a range of religions as it delves deep into how and why there is a world, as well as exploring the arguments for and against the existence of God.
The book is now available worldwide and has received its cover appraisal from writer Philip Pullman.
It follows Jack’s first release, Philosophers on Consciousness: Talking about the Mind, which received positive reviews, including from actor Stephen Fry.
Speaking about the launch, Jack said: “This is probably the most important question in all of philosophy.
“Whether or not God exists determines everything, from the origin of our world and the secrets of our futures.
“We’re kidding ourselves if we think we hold all of the answers, but engaging with a range of alternative perspectives gives us a far better chance of understanding the world and the purpose of the universe.”
