What are databases?

Databases are collections of information. The Library subscribes to many different kinds of databases covering a wide range of subjects. There are databases that only index and abstract journals, while others include some items in full-text. Some are based on publishers’ lists of titles, while others are ‘aggregator’ databases that collect full-text articles from a variety of sources such as journals, magazines, and newspapers. Our 'Databases' web pages list all of the databases that the Library subscribes to, and you can find more details on how to search databases effectively on our 'Finding information: tips on searching' page (click on 'Essential Info' under the 'Services and sites' tab, or use the link below).
