“A number of people have been asking about what Roger Walton will do when he leaves the Wesley Study Centre in August 2010. I can now tell you what will happen. From 1 September 2010 Roger will be the William Leech Research Fellow for one year. This is a Durham University research post based in the Department of Theology and Religion. Roger will be doing some empirical work on emerging patterns of group-based discipleship in the North East and expects to publish the findings. The research work is intended to extend his work on the subject of discipleship and feed into a national project for the Methodist Church.
“For September 2011 Roger has been nominated as the new Chair of the West Yorkshire District of the Methodist Church. The recommendation has been made by the Nominations Panel and the District’s Policy Committee. His name will go to the spring Synod for confirmation and then to Conference in the summer. The nomination is now in the public domain and congratulations are in order.
“I am thankful that we will have Roger for one more year in Durham. I am also excited with the nomination for the Chair of the West Yorkshire District. Roger will bring his passions for learning, mission and discipleship to that key post. We have benefited so much from his leadership over the past decade, and the West Yorkshire District will be privileged to have him as their Chair.”
