What's On

Sweeney Todd & the String of Pearls
Wednesday 5th - Saturday 8th June
Taking place in Durham's sprawling Indoor Market with a cast and band of 30, Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls will offer audiences the chance to really immerse themselves in the world and motivations of Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, as well as his accomplice and sometime-lover, Mrs Cornelia Lovett.
Suitable for all those who can handle a little gore and gripping tragedy, Sweeney Todd is not to be missed.
Another Soup will lead you through the labyrinthine world of Sweeney and up to the crumbling and sordid pie shop belonging to Mrs Lovett, meanwhile visiting the spectacle shop of Mr John Oakley, Esq., where you will meet his teenage daughter, Johanna.
Another Soup are repeating their highly succesful run from earlier this year, on a dark reimagining of the Sweeney Todd tale. Adapted by director Dave Spencer from the original 1846/7 Penny Dreadful, Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls will be a stunning new piece of promenade musical theatre. Drawing on elements of Victorian music hall, Vaudeville, gypsy folk, blues, among a myriad other influences, this production promises to be a delight for all of the senses.
Developed by the creative team behind The Jungle Book and Virginia Woolf's The Waves, and utilising the superb choreography of Ruby Lawrence and the musical genius of Jo Turner, Sweeney Todd is set to be a highlight of Durham's theatrical year.
So come with us and watch this partial love story, partial murder plot, unfurl before your very eyes and feet as you traipse the alleyways and corridors of a once vibrant, but now eerily quiet, marketplace. Join us on this adventure, you're sure to Lovett!
